NOJA Power Partners with POWINS to Develop Innovative Portable Substation in Brisbane

POWINS, a Brisbane electrical solutions provider, is proud to announce its latest project in collaboration with switchgear technology leader NOJA Power.
Together, they are developing a state-of-the-art 22/6.6 kV portable substation product, scalable from 3.6 kV to 38kV. This project example is 22/6.6 kV step down with dual outgoing 6.6 kV feeders, each with their own interlocked earth switch. This architecture is achieved utilizing NOJA Power's advanced GMK technology.
This innovative portable transformer substation product range is designed to enhance the reliability and flexibility of power distribution both regionally and across the vast Australian continent with its remote outback mining and industry locations. The project leverages the robust capabilities of the NOJA Power GMK, a medium voltage circuit breaker, protection relay, power quality monitor, and SCADA RTU, all integrated into a compact, ground-mounted kiosk.
Key Features of this 22/6.6 kV Portable Substation:
- Dual 6.6 kV outgoing feeders: The substation will operate at 22 kV, stepping down to 6.6 kV, delivering two 6.6kV feeds from a single NOJA Power GMK4000.
- Advanced Protection and Monitoring: Equipped with NOJA Power's GMK, the substation will provide comprehensive protection and monitoring, enhancing the safety and reliability of the power network.
- Mobility and Flexibility: Designed for easy transportation and rapid deployment, the portable substation can be quickly installed to provide flexible power on mine sites.
- Sustainability: The project aligns with NOJA Power and POWINS' commitment to sustainable energy solutions, providing a reliable power source with minimal environmental impact.
Julian Rauwendaal, Operations Manager of POWINS Brisbane, commented, “We are excited to partner with NOJA Power on this groundbreaking project. The 22/6.6 kV portable substation will significantly improve our ability to deliver reliable and flexible power solutions to our clients, particularly in the mining and heavy industry sectors.”
Neil O'Sullivan, Group Managing Director of NOJA Power, added, “This collaboration with POWINS is a testament to our shared commitment to innovation and excellence in power distribution. The 22/6.6 kV portable substation, equipped with our GMK technology, represents a significant advancement in providing reliable and efficient power solutions. We are proud to support POWINS in delivering this cutting-edge solution to the mining and heavy industry sectors across Australia.”
This mobile substation integration of a NOJA Power GMK demonstrates the versatility of NOJA Power’s technology, with applications in both utility distribution and mining heavy industry. In this application, the two 6.6kV outgoing feeders are connected via mining bolted cable adaptors - a unique feature sought after on open cut mining leases.

The development of this range of portable transformer substations marks a significant milestone in POWINS' ongoing efforts enhance its service offerings to the mining and heavy industry sector. By integrating NOJA Power's cutting-edge technology, both NOJA Power and POWINS continues to lead the way in providing high-quality, reliable electrical solutions.
