Real Time Synchrophasor Data Capture on the Distribution Grid Achieved by Industry Partnership
Switchgear Engineering Firm NOJA Power today announce the achievement of real-time Synchrophasor data streaming, warehousing and visualization as part of the Australian Government’s ARENA agency project
Utilities and research institutions in the project can now access live, real-time distribution network Synchrophasor data of the Australian distribution network at a granularity a hundred times higher than previous data acquisition methods such as SCADA.
This important milestone and world first achievement shows the technological viability of building a cloud-based secure data path to aggregate and share real-time electrical distribution network data to enable research into renewable energy integration and distribution network stability under a changing generation mix.

“This is a great example of commercialised intellectual property with collaborative research and funding by Government, Electricity Distribution Utility, University and Industry partnership,” reports NOJA Power Group Managing Director Neil O’Sullivan. “The outcomes of this further research that can now be conducted by big data analysis will create world leading solutions in the future.”
The partnership between ARENA, AEMO, Energy Queensland, AusNet Services, the University of Queensland and Deakin University has achieved this milestone on time and budget, showing the collaboration across industry, university and Government in Australia to drive world leading technology research outcomes.
