KEMA Certificates or Reports - what you need to know

A manufacturer that has a high or medium-voltage product tested by KEMA is issued with a KEMA Type Test Certificate or a Report of Performance. It is important that end customers recognize that the two documents differ in status so that no one has an unpleasant surprise further down the line.

A KEMA Type Test Certificate is proof that a product has passed all the type tests specified in the relevant standard. The precise tests involved depend on the standard and the product.

Only if the product has successfully completed the entire test program is the desired Type Test Certificate awarded.

The purchaser of a certified product can be sure that it satisfies all the functional electrical requirements.

Sometimes, a manufacturer will choose to have a product put through a number of the tests specified in a particular standard, but not all of them.

This might happen when, for example, the end customer wishes to have reassurance on a particular point only, when the manufacturer wants to assess the development of a design, or when a product is not capable of withstanding certain tests. Under such circumstances, KEMA issues a Report of Performance.

A Report of Performance is a document specifying which tests have been conducted and what the results were.

A Report of Performance is not a confirmation that the product has passed a test.

Understanding the difference between Type Test Certificates and Reports of Performance is important when considering new or unfamiliar product and only a Type Test Certificate is endorsement of full standards compliance.
