ScottishPower Awards 3 Year Supply Contract To NOJA Power
ScottishPower Energy Networks (SPEN) has awarded NOJA Power a contract to supply their 11kV recloser requirements for the next three years.
NOJA Power will supply an estimated 450 reclosers during the course of the contract. The reclosers will be used in the ScottishPower network as part of their ongoing reliability improvement program.
The OSM15-200 recloser was selected by SPEN after a detailed engineering evaluation had been conducted. Their decision was based on the advanced features offered, including:
- Solid dielectric insulation
- Maintenance free stainless steel construction
- Extensive type tests
- Excellent reliability record of the OSM in the field
- Functionality & flexibility of the in-built Relay / RTU.
Functionality was also very important with SP EnergyNetworks. The integral voltage measurement on all six bushings had many benefits as did the extensive protection, data logging and automation capabilities.
The evaluation and award was a team process involving all stakeholders in the decision. A Trial installation was conducted at their training centre, which included a detailed review and question/answer sessions.
An important part of the improvement work is the control and automation of switchgear. In conjunction with the automation control system supplier, Radius, the reclosers will be integrated via the DNP3 communications port into a jointly developed Radius / SPEN data radio and then communicating with other devices used throughout SPEN.

Some additional functionality was incorporated after the review. SP EnergyNetworks and NOJA Power engineers worked together to implement these during the initial contract process.
Training and support is a key element in any successful recloser purchase and this is a particular strength of NOJA Power's approach. Detailed training for SP EnergyNetworks staff has been fully supported by NOJA Power's service department as part of the contract.
NOJA Power reclosers are exclusively supplied in the UK by Matthew Blythe and Sons who are providing SP EnergyNetworks with local contact and support for the OSM recloser.
