Motorpol Australasia Launches OSM Recloser At EEA Conference In NZ
Motorpol Australasia recently attended the EEA Conference in Christchurch to exhibit the OSM recloser for the first time in New Zealand.
The unique features of the device generated a great deal of interest among distribution utilities. Not only is the product completely free of SF6 gas and oil insulants, it is also extremely lightweight (65kg) and reliable (rated to 30,000 mechanical operations) making it easy to install and virtually maintenance free throughout its lifetime.
Motorpol were able to demonstrate to NZ utilities how the OSM is specially designed to integrate into existing network configurations with ease. A wide range of protection functionality allows it to fit into any existing scheme. Custom protection curves can be designed using a graphical tool. This tool can display curves from other devices on the feeder to help configure the correct protection grading.
SCADA configuration has been carefully designed so the OSM can be changed to suit the existing configuration rather than the other way around. MODBUS and DNP3 protocols are provided as standard with the DNP3 configuration allowing full configuration of all points available in the recloser. RTU and radio interfacing is highly configurable allowing adjustments to elements such as delays, handshaking, collision avoidance and preamble settings.
Overall the EEA conference was a successful introduction into the NZ market. The level of interest shown in NOJA Power's range of indoor and outdoor products clearly demonstrates the need for a reliable, environmentally friendly, cost effective recloser solution. The good news for NZ utilities is that they can have all these advantages while still enjoying advanced protection and SCADA functionality.
