OSM Reclosers Ideal For African Utilities
NOJA Power's African distributor, Jose Gancho from CPS Consultants, visited our head office in Brisbane recently for training.
Jose Gancho from CPS Consultants, said that the unique combination of light weight, mechanical reliability, long lifetime and advanced controller functionality will be hard to beat in an industry that has traditionally used bulky SF6 and oil insulated designs.
The OSM recloser is the lightest in its class, weighing just 65kg for a recloser rated at 27kV. The lightweight design is accomplished by using compact vacuum interrupters combined with fast-operating magnetic actuators. The actuators are directly connected to the interrupters, reducing the amount of moving parts required and increasing the reliability. This combination is rated at an industry-leading 30,000 full load and mechanical operations.
A stainless-steel tank protects the mechanism while providing full arc-fault containment. The result is a light device that can be mounted in situations where space and construction limitations prohibit the use of older designs.
Absolutely no environmentally harmful insulants such as SF6 gas or oil are used within the recloser. This has a number of advantages for African utilities. No special equipment needs to be purchased for maintaining the switchgear population and disposal costs at the end of their lifetime are non-existent. In addition, compliance with existing or future environmental regulations is assured.
