Excellent Support Combined With Innovative Features Sells Reclosers In New Zealand

A combination of advanced recloser features and good customer support has seen the successful introduction of the OSM recloser into New Zealand. NOJA Power's New Zealand Distributor, Motorpol Australasia is confident an increasing number of utilities will recognise the benefits of using advanced recloser technology in their network.

Motorpol's Sales Manager, Peter Withiel, says their success is largely due to helping customers solve their network installation and integration issues right from the start. He says this process was made easier thanks to NOJA Power's prompt responses to customer queries.

Peter says the ease of integration into existing SCADA systems has been a key point for NZ electrical utilities. All NOJA Power reclosers are supplied with DNP3 and MODBUS protocols as standard. A DNP3 point mapping tool is integrated into the management software used to program the recloser. This tool allows SCADA engineers to modify the protocol point mapping to suit their existing design - rather than having to change their own system. In addition to this nearly every aspect of the communications interface can be adjusted to suit all types of hardware.

Lightweight OSM

Motorpol's customers have also been very happy about the ease of installation. The OSM recloser's light weight makes it easy to lift onto the pole - many utilities around the world simply use their standard platform with a block and tackle. This means hiring a separate crane is usually not required.

LMT Retrofit Extends Lifetime Of Switchboards

The LMT circuit breaker is extensively used in older distribution boards around the world. Many of these are nearing the end of their useful lifetime and are becoming unreliable or a safety risk. Rather than replace the entire switchboard, NOJA Power can refurbish existing LMT trucks using modern vacuum interrupting circuit breaker technology.

NOJA Power takes the existing LMT CB truck, completely dissembles it, powder coats all components, then reassembles using new switching components. The result is an extremely reliable circuit breaker with many years of service ahead of it. All this is done using the same truck so alignments do not have to be re-verified.

The original LMT circuit breaker is an oil filled device. The retro-fit replaces this component with a vacuum interrupted, solid di-electric, switch module. This makes the new LMT completely free of environmentally dangerous insulants.

The new switch module is monitored and operated by a micro-processor based control module mounted inside the truck. This component delivers the correct charge to the magnetic actuators and checks for correct operation. The control module uses dry contacts to initiate switching, making it ideal for integration into SCADA systems.
