NOJA Power NewsIssue 6 New Tool Connects To Reclosers Using DNP3 And Ethernet TechnologyNOJA Power's recloser management tool, TELUS, has been extended to allow remote connections to reclosers. A DNP3 communications server is used to route TCP-IP sessions via ethernet and out through an RS232 or RS485 serial port to devices in the field using modems or other equipment. DNP3 is used to access information and control the recloser across the communications link. One advantage of the system is the ability to run the communications server component on just one machine, and allow other machines on the ethernet network to access remote devices by connecting through the server. Alternatively it can be run as a stand-alone system on one computer. TELUS Remote is intended for use in situations where a full blown SCADA system is not viable or where engineers need to connect to a recloser in the field without needing to drive out to the site. The same familiar TELUS interface is used making it easy to use for existing users.
